Herzing College has partnered with The Career Foundation to help immigrants with an electrical or telecommunications background get specialized training in network cabling.

Ontario is seeing steady employment growth for those who can install and maintain the low-voltage lines that carry voice, video, and data.

The provincial government expects up to 1,000 network cabling jobs to become available between 2021 and 2025.

For newcomers with relevant prior education or experience, this program is a quick, affordable way to gain updated skills and transition into the Canadian workforce.

Read on for all the details.

WHAT IS THE CAREER FOUNDATION?

The Career Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping immigrants secure training and employment.

Their bridging programs are designed to help highly skilled internationally trained immigrants land jobs in a related field in Canada.

Herzing is partnering with The Career Foundation to train 120 immigrants in a customized network cabling course over the next three years.

HOW DOES THE SPECIAL NETWORK CABLING TRAINING WORK?

Participants receive:

  • Training in structured cabling, fiber-optic media, and Canadian and Ontario building codes
  • Safety certifications such as WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and Working at Heights
  • Training in communication techniques and Canadian workplace culture
  • Support with resume writing and job search skills
  • Connections to network cabling employers

Once they successfully complete the program, participants will be fully qualified for roles as network cabling specialists in Ontario.

This customized program runs for just 12 weeks in total.

That includes five weeks of communication and pre-employment training through The Career Foundation and seven weeks of technical training through Herzing College.
